The prevention of potential TANF recipients from becoming ongoing TANF recipients is the goal of the Diversionary Assistance Program. Immediate intervention with short-term aid is provided to resolve a one-time emergency or crisis situation and prevent the need for ongoing TANF. Assistance is provided with the applicant’s emergency or crisis situation to cover basic needs such as food, shelter, medical expenses, child care expenses or the costs associated with getting or keeping employment, including transportation costs. The household must meet TANF eligibility requirements. Current recipients of TANF are not eligible.
